Rationalism Vs Emotionalism

Recently, a question was raised on the counter effects of rationalism in the absence of emotion. At the outset perhaps it would be better to segregate the two terms emotion and emotionalism. These are two very different terms although near in spelling and pronunciation.
While emotion is a very positive tool, emotionalism can destroy the best of us, if exhibited incorrectly and in the wrong conditions, and can have a very disturbing effect on the environment.
Emotions like Anger, Contempt, Fear, Disgust, Happiness, Sadness and Surprise have been given to us as a defense mechanism, some to ward of danger and others to make us aware of our surroundings and become sensitive to its nuances, before possible harm can occur. These are in fact a very part of our physiology and are programed into us and would do us harm if we tried to do away with them. In fact used in correct quantity these emotions help to build our character and give substance to our behavior and help to build our personality.
Rationalism on the other hand is the pure use of logic and analytical power to gauge a situation in its pristineness, an objective analysis of the situation that has no room for emotion, an almost robotic quality to do what is best in a given situation sans distraction of emotion that will bring out the best result. It’s precise and practical and very much on the point and leaves little room to maneuver. It will involves discrimination and wisdom of experience and a much centered and balanced look at things and will cater to absolutism.
Emotionalism, on the other hand, is a different kettle of fish, it removes all power to think, and it will destabilize, and will oscillate taking extreme positions and bring out bursts of emotions, and will lead to irrational analysis, based mostly on subjectivity, and will render argument and understanding useless, leaving one physically and emotionally and mentally hot, and upset, with expanded eyes, variant gestures, teary eyed in some cases with heated attitude and raised voices and sharp body movements, and the inability to listen altogether…an explosive situation all in all leading to dissension and soreness in body and mind and resulting some times in heinous acts of bodily harm and revenge…..all very undesirable and completely foolish if I may say so!
What is necessary is to have rationalism with the right amount of emotion. This will ensure that emotion is expressed in right measure and quality and according to the circumstances. This will not only resolve complications but will lead to a saner living pattern and help to maintain a more peaceful environment which in turn will promote growth and prosperity. Understanding will be clear and the perceptions will be right, there will be lesser misunderstandings and more constructive thought processes and above all it will enable one to put oneself in the others shoe and see things as they are and thus be clearer about the concerned situation. It will lead to more openness and a sense of goodwill will prevail and the sense of having enemies and opposite parties may reduce to the minimum.
Thus emotion +rationalism will enable but emotionalism will disable.
This is what being human is being all about…enhancement, change and elevated thought processes that are put into practice so that every tomorrow is better than yesterday…..the removal of negativity and the indulgence in recreating ourselves……constantly on an everyday scale. Emotionalism will inhibit this process…so be rational and by all means have emotions …but shun emotionalism…! Continue reading Rationalism Vs Emotionalism

The Light in Darkness!

Stay Darkness! There is a light there

Telling me stories of mankind’s flairs

Not a moment too soon, I come upon it,

Just let it be there for a while,

We are trying to surpass thee.

                   Said Darkness, “I’m always there,

                   Covering everything, within and without

A little bit of light is just that

Only for a moment, then I reign supreme.

                   When the wicker burns out,

How do you propose to carry on?

                    For I am the Truth,

                    The very core of existence

Even the light cannot escape me.

It’s an illusion, a temporary expression

                      Be all and end all

                       No matter your secret aspirations

                       It will always enfold.

Embrace it! Then you shall ‘see’

                        The Light in Darkness!

LOOKING BACK AND AFAR…..

Ages have passed, eons gone!

The questions have remained the same,

They still go unanswered

As we mingle blindly among them.

Stop now… And let go!

There is nothing to ask

And there is nothing to know!

 Oh it’s just a task.

There is nothing to gain

And nothing to lose,

 Let go these researches

And live life through.

Mere extension of time

From a source unknown,

We are a projection of a mind

That plays games galore.

We exist not, we know not

So let not the mind play games,

Otherwise you will only be besought

With agonies untold.

AMIDST SHORES

salalah

                                       Between the two shores of
Life and Death,
There is a great abyss, so very deep
That it tends to drown you
Into a deep waking sleep.
Between the two shores of
Life and Death,
Is, a cess pool, that’s very dandy and cool
Filled with activities galore
At a speed where nothing can be restored.
From birth begins the journey of untold sins,
Of disbelief and destruction which is perhaps
Life’s only creation, and we are left with
Only the clatter called Humanity.
Where regression is named development
And corruption a matter of course,
Every aspect of life seems contaminated
With the touch of degraded souls.
Matters not that you are good
Nor whether you want to contribute,
For there is no place for the such
As they will never be understood.
Made-up stories, artificial supreme
All just a projection of the mind
Myriad colors, attractively laid out
In various designs and intricate patterns
Little knowing from whence you have come.
And even less of destination after death,
We strut along like we are Kings although
Of a lesser realm, oh! So unknown.
For how long will this dance continue?
How much more can the soul degrade?
The cleansing is long overdue
Oh Humanity! Take stock and pay your dues.
Cleanse yourself then look at the shores
Make your right choice,
Reach for the banks and don’t look back
To the dream ….. Between Life and Death!

… GRASS, NORMALLY CONSIDERED HARMFUL AND REMOVED

WHEN LEFT ALONE BLOOMS IN FULL BEAUTY AND ELEGANCE SUPREME.

….MAN HAS STILL MUCH TO LEARN FROM NATURE……

HUMANS MUST LEARN TO CO-EXIST IN A HARMONIOUS WAY………

FOR NATURE ONLY GIVES …..

AND MAN SHAMELESSLY TAKES…………

AND DESTROYS THE VERY THING THAT SUSTAINS IT!

HUMANS ARE A PART OF NATURE AND NOT ABOVE IT

WE HAVE TO LEARN TO LIVE WITHIN IT.

THEREIN LIES THE SECRET OF OUR GROWTH AND SUCCESS!

Everyone appreciates nature and its beauty……….

Yet only a few do something to

                          Preserve it…………….

And lesser still take the effort to

                            Protect it……………..

And only a handful are ready to

                           Sacrifice for it………

………….The majority just live off it!!!!

LUXURY AND THE SHAMELESS DESTRUCTION OF THE NATURAL HABITAT

I was just going through the paper today and then browsed the net. As usual the advertisements stare out at you forever trying to entice you and using every trick in the book to net clientele by creating lovely visual effects and making promises.

For a person, with some means, who is tired of the mundane existence and its stresses and strains and fed up of the high-rise building & matchbox existence, what we call modern life, these definitely prove enticing… …a veritable getaway or run away if you will… an escapism, even if for a short time to enjoy the pristineness of earth and its peacefulness which sadly is available only in small pockets.

Be that as it may, the other side of the coin is more horrific to those who would think more of others than themselves and their own short-lived and temporary respite, all in the end of no avail. While on the one hand business and economics has little time to give to the preservation of earth, and even less time to think of future generations and what type of legacy we are going to leave behind as a generation that is no different from the locust in their greed and hunger for profit on the other hand it will be leaving in its’ wake destruction and barrenness that can never be reversed.

DISCRIMINATION AND THE PAST

There is a great affinity for the past. In fact the mind has a definite curiosity about it. There is this continuous need to delve in it and find out the reason for the existence or the non-existence of particular thing or a happening.

While on the one hand it is an avid research going activity in the realm of the roots of our existence, it also is a great teacher of what matters most and what doesn’t , what needs to be discarded and what requires to be stored for future reference. It’s the ongoing story of growth and development and also a great storehouse of knowledge that has been kept for reference in the event of recurrence of events, long thought of as extinct.

In personal matters the past literally is the reiteration or re-living of the many occurrences in the mind which is more or less a psychological aspect. Many times it is termed as nostalgia, and in other instances it could be a mental condition signifying the deterioration of the brain or in other cases just a matter of depression. Thus if a person has AVP or a PTSD like condition then they will return again and again in the past and relive events some of them traumatic thus affecting the psyche of the person.

There are various reasons why even a normal healthy person lives in the past. Firstly it could be kind of escapism. The individual may not want to deal with the present situation and would like to put it off for tomorrow or prefer not to deal with it at all. It’s easy to go to a happy place in the past and stay there as one feels safe and is engulfed in a soft cocoon of safety and here there is no need to deal with anything.

Then there are happenings which leave an impression on the mind, some of them good and the others bad. The good ones don’t trouble much but the bad ones tend to pull one down as the images flow in the head time and again creating a fear psychosis that leaves a definite imprint on the mind and personality of the individual.

Certain experiences are filed away for future reference so as to increase the security and act as a warning system, to skirt around possible repetition of the unwanted experiences.

The past can be a dangerous place with constant re-visitations of traumatic experiences , as the mind is wont to do, can lead to health issues and a erode the mental health  of the individual.

The past should be used as a tool, a weapon if you will, to enable one to guard against negative experiences. The past   experiences are a stepping stone to progress and growth, it is a store house of knowledge, to be visited only when required, it’s a library of happenings, it’s a stepping stone that enables one to make future projections and make informed decisions.

The past is definitely not to be hung on, caught into like a web or to hold on to like a security blanket. Especially if it has experiences that are of a negative kind and add little value to you present life. The past is about learning and moving on. The past should not be allowed to inhibit your future, it should help to elevate one to new levels of thought processes and implementations. It has to be used as a tool to move ahead.

It is therefore necessary to be discriminatory about the past. One has to be rational and practical, discard the inhibitors and shelve the helpful experiences for future reference.  The Past is for learning to discover the future. It’s beneficial only if you know how to use it. Otherwise it is easy to get lost in a maze that will make you sink deeper into a darkness that can destroy your very essence

Nobody loves for love’s sake,  because that kind of love requires sacrifice, and there

is only one that is prepared to do that …….that is the mother for her child . This is

the only relationship that has stood the test of time,  as the mother and not the child

is ready to do the utmost, even at the cost of her own happiness or her life.

Rest is just give and take in the name of love
